about

So “Ode to Camp Lo” was the second record I did for Midnight Express. When I heard the beat, it sounded like something off “Black Hollywood.” I wanted to do some Ill Camp Lo style slang — just really colorful and exciting like Black Connection. If you peep, that’s why my verse starts with “Another day another dolla in mountains of Guatemala” when BS stars with “I ski in Switzerland..”

Alaska & Chong got involved almost by accident. The song was originally going to be me & Alex Ludovico, but I saw Alaska advertising for guests verses. I sent him “Ode” and “Detlef” because I wanted him to get him on some different production. He heard Ode and love it. Alaska is actually the person who said we should do the last verse back-and-forth— I was trying to get Geechi Suede himself on the record, but we couldn’t lock it down.
